It’s quite true though. The Aeneid was no more than a creepy arse poem in Honour of Augustus, Vergil’s patron making up some crap about the Trojans founding Rome. The Iliad and Odyssey were tales from the oral tradition. The Aeneid assumes a continuation which is no more than tagging on a sequel because the money is good. I remember being told these stories were poems sung by troubadours in a mellifluous Greek dialect. Supposedly, it was a wonder to hear these bards hold forth with their tales. It was a charming image to contemplate as the presenter related the contents.
