Is this true ?. Are US cosmetics really full of harmful chemicals?. And surely the use of asbestos is banned
Not only do cosmetics (us, aus), contain harmful products, they are STILL, in this day and age, tested on defenceless creatures. Unless you go with vegan products, you cannot be sure what your cosmetics contain, or what animals were tortured so as to produce makeup.
There are often a lot of things in cosmetics that some people don't believe should be in there. But if you really do read into the scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals - I just picked out a couple from that article, based on sentences they wrote - most of the claims are iffy. There are chemicals in certain hair care products that are known carcinogens, but only in massive percentages and at lengthy exposure times. So the wording used in describing how dangerous it is makes a big difference. Nuances, you know? It's a shame that people can't just walk into any store and buy whatever they think is pretty, but money is what fuels greed and greed rules all. So...it's every man for himself, basically. You research the best hotel to stay at before vacation, right? So due diligence should be done for anything you put in/on your body, too, I guess. I just go by some advice I heard from everybody's favorite love-to-hate YouTube beauty guru, Jeffree Star: All reputable makeup should have an ingredients list and tamper-proof seal. You should look up any ingredients you don't know about. Be extra careful with makeup manufactured in China. Don't buy makeup from eBay or Wish or, really, anywhere that isn't a reputable retailer. Check expiration dates, if they have them printed.
excellent points
Johnson & Johnson made vaginal deoderant powders that contained asbestos and it lead to women having cervical cancer...they were sued in a class action and lost...millions of dollars are being paid out to women who have died or are dying...
yes...to your question...
I remember that case. I didn't realise that the cancer was caused by asbestos. Hopefully they have changed the formula now,
Claire's (US brand name) cosmetics have been shown to contain asbestos.
That was mentioned in the article the OP gave the link to. It also mentioned that Claire's voluntarily pulled the eyeshadow and powders. From what I remember, Claire's denied, denied, denied. They claimed they had quit using talc-based components (talc and asbestos are usually found close together while mining). The FDA did a few more tests by independent labs that confirmed the asbestos and I guessed that's when they decided to pull the makeup. Probably only bc they had recently filed for bankruptcy and came out of it somehow and were afraid to make things worse? And people wonder why I implore them to have their kids' ears pierced at a piercing shop and not at that place where they don't even train the 16-year old employees how to use those damned guns.
