This senario is scary but that is my intention.
If things blow up with Iran, A US aircraft carrier will be lost. It will be a true tradgedy with massive loss of life and a nuclear reactor on the bottom of the ocean.
However, as the US is in foreign waters acting aggressively, my sympathy would be limited. I would mourn the poor indoctrinated souls being sacrificed not unlike I do for some terrorists. But I would also view it as the US getting its nose blooded which hopefully will make them think twice before being aggressive again.
Its a horrific senario but I fear it is what will happen.
Dont assume it will be Iran in the gulf either. If Iran is attacked, China will be rightly on guard. They may decide to sink something in the Sth China sea or with the Iran distraction, take Taiwan.
Dangerous times.

It is amazing just how many people in America are just completely clueless on this, have no idea just how dangerous it is, and tangling with the Chinese would be some very fucking serious shit. I am convinced that the whole human race is going to wipe itself off the planet, the only question in my mind is when exactly . . . . but it is coming for sure.

It would likely only increase public support for wars . . . . exactly what we do not need. As for a carrier going down, I was on one, and they are floating bombs, one direct hit, and all the bombs, missiles, and other ordinance goes up, and that means they will not find much of it at the bottom of the sea.

When the Uk sent a force to the Falklands to fight the pesky Argentinians Thatcher's popularity at home rose dramatically so you are spot on

@powder Certainly different. "The Yanks are getting tired of war"?. i'm not so sure. Certainly they tired of war in Vietnam because of the casualties and the realisation in some quarters that it was totally unjust. Afghanistan and Iraq ?. casualties were much lower and modern warfare is more of a long range thing with most of the casualties being civilians . Collateral damage of little importance.
The military industrial machine is very important to the US economy and the mindset that they are the world's policemen still holds good.
I can't see a war against Iran happening and in the unlikely event that it did it is unlikely the US would put "boots on the ground"

My original comment was about how a foreign war means a rise in patriotism at home and if it is successful it means an increase in the popularity of the govt in charge.
