Space travel :- if you travel at 50,000 mph for 13,412 years you would have travelled for one light year, are we ever going to leave our solar system ?

If Einstein's theory of curved space holds true, it is likely the universe is Torus shaped, allowing in time for the breaking out of "Space" and traveling outside of space at Tachyonic speeds or by means of wormholes across the tangents connecting vastly different areas.
At the moment the science is still in it's infancy, however I hope it may one day prove possible.

The science continues;I worry more about the politics and destructive nature of humans. Already being tested are light sails in space. A light sail ship could reach speeds up to half the speed of light. Stii, that makes for a long trip: 2 to 4 years getting to speed, closest star is 10 light years so add 20 more years, then another 4 years to slow down. So 30 plus years and no guarantee of finding anything.
