Some wild flowers from the Olympic National Park including a rare orchid. We did see a banana slug.

Beautiful...love the slug...was it large as it looks?

@Gwendolyn2018 Thanks...we have small ones...I just pick them off and throw them in the woods...

@Gwendolyn2018 and not as bad as the ones you eat in the tropics...there is a silver lining in all things...ha ha ha

@Gwendolyn2018 I don't think I get those...I don't have a lot of destructive bugs...but we have stink bugs...they are horrible in the house...

@Gwendolyn2018 Japanese beetles are the worst. Interesting how they came to the states. Another man made disaster.

@freeofgod like kudzu, the stink bug, that awful little snail in our lakes...man ruins everything...

@thinktwice , kudzu is the reason the japanese beetles are here.

@freeofgod How is that? Kudzu was brought over in 1876 and the Japanese beetle came over in 1912...do you mean they feed on it? I would think that would be a good way to get rid of the kudzu...I had it growing in my yard in Atlanta and kept it under control...kudzu is edible and makes for a nice flour for cooking.

@thinktwice , They feed on it but prefer other native plants. So they leave the kudzu and invade places that, to them, have more tasty things. There's no kudzu in this part of Ky but an overload of Japanese beetles. .

@freeofgod I was just trying to figure out how kudzu and the Japanese beetle are connected... We in PA are responsible for kudzu...it was first brought over for a Centennial event in Philly...the South needed erosion control and oops...I hate that it has taken over all over the South...it won't grow much here due to being killed in our winters...but, winters are getting warmer, so, I bet it survives...

I have been reading that they are working on a bacteria that Japanese beetles will eat and not be able to reproduce...there is hope...but then, who knows what that will trigger...ugh Happy Gardening!

@thinktwice , In the Appalachian Mountains I've seen kudzu swallow trees, houses, electric poles. Kudzu grows up to three ft a day and can remain dormant for more than seven years. Man will never learn they shouldn't try to fool nature 😟

@freeofgod I know...the crews work hard to control it, but it spreads and grows so fast. It is beautiful, but even beauty can kill...

@Gwendolyn2018 We have a problem with honeysuckle as well...vines can take over in a matter of weeks!

It takes us an hour to cover a mile because we're always botanizing.

That sounds like the fun part.

@freeofgod That's how we found the orchid. And it was right along the trail.
