One thing that bothered me about fellow Muslims was that they banged on about doing good things to please God. Literally just that. It was their only reason.
Well what about doing good things because you want to do them? Not merely because you're trying to please an external force? I know this seems like a reductionist characterisation, but you'd be surprised at how accurate it is.
That is not simply a trait of muslins, christians do exactly the same thing. They appear to need a god to supervise their entire life as they are not capable of moral or ethical behavior without the constant belief that their god is watching their every move.
For me, that only means they have no true moral or ethical behavior. Anybody who need that kind of threat to be a good person is not really good to begin with and/or have no clue what good behavior is.
Good idea, but most people are more readily motivated by fear of God, than by the desire to do righteousness for righteousness sake.
Because xian folks Never do that? Or are you just making random (critical) remarks to curry favor, Exactly like those folks did?
A lot of religious folks can’t comprehend that atheists do good things because it’s the right thing to do, or because it feels good to help others. They can’t fathom having any moral compass if they weren’t serving the whims of their imaginary friend.
