In 1348 one of the worst of the many pandemics began sweeping across Europe. The Roman Church decreed that Priests from the Fransiscan and Dominican orders should pick up their Bibles and confront the Devils scourge, The Black Death, and defeat the demon in "Jesus Name." These two orders were wiped out. It took nearly two generations to replenish these orders. That was really the beginning of empirical observation through the scientific method.

pretty sure that global cooling resulting in poor or no crops resulted in the plagues.

The first wave of plague was the result of a "comet" impact in 538. About every 50 years thereafter a version of the plague killed the old and young. Hence the "dark-ages."

Islam was one of the results of this worldwide devastation.

You are talking about the 14th century but let me tell you something of the 21st century. It is happening as we speak. Early Christianity alone does not have the sole right to ignorance and damage to humanity.

Their faith wasn't strong enough. If they had just believed harder they'd have defeated the Plague through the power of prayer.

Cuz that's a thing.

The best bit was that the Feudal lords workforce was decimated and they had to deal people with a bargaining chip if they wanted to stay in business. The people also took up against the clergy as they were clearly not doing their job by not keeping God onside!

That's right. The population reduction led to the concept of wages for work.

Probably pope clement vi, who was from the benedictine order, saw this as a way of getting rid of the rival orders franciscans and dominicans, but all those who died of the black plague were absolved by a decree from this same pope, the ignorance at the time was just slightly less than the ignorance of the people who wrote the testaments.
