I'm single, in my 40's and am allergic to cats. I feel kinda screwed. That's not even bringing up being an athiest in the bible belt.

I'm single and allergic to cats. Most of my friends have cats. I take a lot of meds. Also agnostic in the bible belt.

it's not just single women, it's single attractive women tend to have cats. I think they all got a memo at like age 13 that said they had to

I'm allergic to cats and have asthma. I loathe cats.

My boyfriend, a medical doctor, has three cats. Bill comes to my home.

"If you spent the night at my house, it would probably kill you," he said.

"There's a cat hair on my microphone," I said, repulsed. Bill was readying us for takeoff in his plane. It was close to my mouth. I picked it off.

"Do you let your cats in the plane?"

"No, cats have never been in my plane," he replied. It was from his clothes.

I love humor writer Dave Barry's take on cats:

"If left to their own devices, cats would lead humans directly into a whirling blade."

I'm actually cool with cats until I can't breathe. Then it seems a bit untenable.

@onthefire I married a woman who loved cats, so I built a house for her and the cat, we had a room downstairs that wasn't vented into the air system. He was outside during the day and inside at night. He lived 18 years and had a great life. I miss him, but I found a way to make it work!!!

I’m single (divorced) 38 and atheist and “allergic to cats” is a “dealbreaker” for me.

My point exactly. Single women tend to have cats. It's just statistics.

@onthefire I hate cats!

@AnneWimsey I don't trust people that hate cats ! LOL

@Bigwavedave oh well.....

@Allamanda If I didn’t have pets, and was in a relationship with someone allergic, then I wouldn’t get pets. But pets are part of the family. This is their home and has been for their whole lives. I am not going to evict them from the only home they’ve ever had for a new person. When you adopt an animal you are responsible for it and it is not ok to just get rid of them because they become inconvenient.

@Allamanda if I became allergic to cats I would take medicine and, if necessary, suffer through, rather than banish innocent family members to potentially be executed because they became inconvenient to me. Being unable to care for them is a different situation, and I have been there, but a lot of people pretty loosely define “not convenient” as “not able” and I object to that.
