“The All Scripture Baptist Church includes its belief in the death penalty for homosexuality in a doctrinal statement on its home page. It also says the church considers the King James Version of the Bible to be “the perfect, preserved word of God, without error.” This translation of the Bible was commissioned in the 17th century by King James I of England, believed by many historians to have been a gay man.”

Well ... they want to kill LGBT people ... Leviticus also mandates execution for children who disobey their parents, people who wear clothing of mixed fibers, those who eat shrimp, etc. Wow, these folks love to cherry pick.

Chapters 18 and 20 of Leviticus form part of the Holiness code and list prohibited forms of intercourse, including the following verses:

"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." Chapter 18 verse 22[1]
"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them." Chapter 20 verse 13[2]

probably a closet gay himself

Most likely ... think of all the fervent fundies who scream and holler about gays ... and then they are caught with gay prostitutes.

It's real ignorance like this that keeps me awake at night.

1

And why exactly isn't this being investigated as a terroristic threat? It's both religiously and politically motivated, it's a fatwa declared by an extremist religious leader calling for the death of a very specific group of people, among other similarities. And all of it based on the hatred of others that go against what some book written by middle-eastern goat herders from thousands of years ago had to say.

I live in Knoxville. His “message” is very unsettling. And wrong. It’s against scripture and, judging from comments in local media, not real well received.

2

No, people like this pastor/Sheriff are the ones who should be put to death for believing this bullshit and promoting this sick way of thinking.

I’m hoping we can all find a way to live with each other that doesn’t rely on murder to solve our problems.

The King James is also thought by many, historians especially, to be one of the most dishonest versions of the bible. The editors made large additions and alterations to the texts they were working from, including extra laws and commandments, many extra verses and an extra version of the resurrection.

That is also how I understand it. and also given an archaic lilt to imply archaic descent, therefore historic authority..

@Geoffrey51 Yes that is true, and then of course the Book of Mormon was writen in the same King James English more than two centuries later, which must mean that the all knowing god can't do modern languages.

Bullshit Bullshit Baptist church is a fairly recent invention had some friends in high school who claimed that Jesus only drank grape juice not wine . Evangelical Christians are so delusional that they accept Orange Cheeto as a good President. The bible says nothing about homosexuality death penalty for trumps transgressions yes but they ignore that . So delusional it scares me they are ripe for a dictatorship and theocracy

bobwjr Level 10 June 13, 2019

Almost everyone in this area believe the 'grape juice' bullshit. They are mostly evangelicals of course.

By bible I mean older versions than king James and old testament not one done by a king with a grudge unhappy with his wife

@freeofgod yeah just keep juice in refrigerator Bullshit

Do I wonder do they ever ask themselves how people kept grape juice, two thousand years before Louis Pasteur.

@Fernapple yup but even pasteurized would ferment when exposed to air

@bobwjr Yes, though L.P. also introduced sealed containers for sterilized foods and drinks, the whole system of preserving in fact. He is well worth study, one of the really great creators of the modern world. At least look him up on google or wiki, if you have the time, I think you will find it fun and rewarding.

@Fernapple , They never ask themselves anything. How else could they remain religious?

5

Well, it's really difficult to show the delusional that what they believe does not exist in reality.

What's worse is that most of them are completely clueless about the history of their own religion and "holy" books, and have zero interest in learning.

It's so much easier to have their pastors, priests, whatever you want to call the bastards to do their thinking for them.

6

Why are these fools so interested in other peoples sex lives. Seems that is the problem.

The “pastor” is an idiot. His “message” is upsetting a lot of people. He isn’t getting a lot of support in local media comments.

That's just ridiculous... The Bible doesn't say anything about death penalty for homosexuals does it?

from the article:
“He was basing his sermon, titled “Sodomite Reprobates,” on the King James Version of the Bible’s book of Leviticus, which says in chapter 20, verse 13, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

@skado Do you think he was an altar boy? Molested in his youth and angry? In the garden of Eden that's a waste of seed. No children/slaves are bred from that. lol.

@IAJO163
Likely! Or repressing gay fantasies.
