Religion (in the US) is their cover, their tax-free organizing tool. MLK used it, too. God, Guns & Gays remains their rallying tools. And ‘the left’ hands it to them..

I don’t expect any successful politician to run on ‘Atheists Rights,’ either. It simply brings out the crazies in opposition.. Instead, I volunteer and vote for quality candidates, understanding fully their court appointments and legislation would/ will reflect their assumed lack of religion.

Candidates catering to a subset of democrats use such issues to both inflame their opposition (usually from a district or state ‘safe enough’ to do so) - and invigorate the extremist branch of their party.

Problem is, we’ve a monstrously massive and tragically diverse national population ..not ready to openly support progressve ideals. So toss an ‘ultra liberal’ candidate at them ...and watch them look elsewhere, sit it out ..or elect the ‘known conservative’ option..
