Frequently one doesnt realize how lucky or how fortuitous events in ones life can be at the time they occur.

I just finished listening to the special CNN production of history of the Eagles. Now this band hit its heydey when I was in college in Tucson. It was one of the bands that my circle of friends related to and frequently listened to.

In 1992, it was my first year at the Santa Fe Indian School. We recieved a call from an organization in Aspen that wanted to offer inner city and Native American children outdoor opportunities that they would not normally have access. It was fronted by ex-Eagle Glenn Fry.

I had experience in ropes courses and experiential education so I was selected to take the students to Aspen. As it turned out, my group was selected to live for a week in Glenn's house in Aspen with he, his wife and baby.

While we were there, Glenn had our group write a wrap song and record it in Glenn's on-sight recording studio. It was the time of the Winter Olympics in Europe. On one evening, on the after hour Olympic coverage, a film team was sent to Glenn's house and all us sang "Party Town" (totally inappropriate, but had it sprung on us at the ladt minute) on a television broadcast, live worldwide. At the time my focus was on taking care of my Native students and never realized the uniqueness of the opportunity we were given. Besides I've never been
impressed by celebrities despite living in Santa Fe, New Mexico forvtwo decades. The import and fortuitousness didn't really hit home until tonight after listening to the CNN Eagles special.

Unfortunately the week didn't end well. Glenn and his partners allowed press into an evening session with the students where they all opened up and shared private stories. Needless to say the next morning when we saw our kids exposed in the Aspen paper, we were not happy. I was charged by my Superintendent to address the situation. Not realizing that Glenn was known as such an alpha, and me being kind of one myself, well......lets say we had a difference of opinion. Fortunately our program was due to end the next day anyway. Next day we packed up headed home and severed our ties with Glenn's organization. I was sad to hear of Glenn's passing a couple years back.

Sorry for boring everyone, but the program made me nostalgic and I felt like sharing. I've been fortunate to have had many serendipitous happenstances like this on my journey through life. Woohoo.

Sounds like good intentions gone astray. I’ve always liked the Eagles — I just get a bit tired of hearing Hotel California every time I tell Alexa to play classic rock.

Unlike most people I never liked the Eagles.
