I think this was planned as both a reelection strategy and a way to manipulate oil prices a while ago with pulling out of the treaty. If Trump gets his wish a lot of people will die - to the glee of some - and some people who already have a fuckton of money will get even more.

Probably not, the US get tons of domestic mileage out of saber rattling with Iran, an actual conflict would be a whole other can of worms. Still, a scary situation, wars have broken out over stupider things.
