I am a Textile Technologist, but now I work on a job I dislike. And yes, I still work!

Ironically, my motivation to succeed has been to make my niche job less of a specialty item (where I had ALL the business) and more mainstream, where I now share business with many others doing the same thing, so I'm making less money, but that's okay.

To explain, I was the only humanistic wedding officiant and funeral celebrant in my state for the first few years of my career, so I had all the business of those wishing a non-religious wedding or funeral. Doing a good job, getting rave reviews and people sharing their experience with others, meant more officiants offering non-religious services as well to "share the wealth" which took away from my income. But in the long run, my goal is to be sure there are non-religious choices out there for life celebrations.

Still working! But have a lot more free time since there are too many officiants offering similar services to what I once solely provided. With this unexpected free time, perhaps I'll finish writing a book I started years ago, before I got busy with weddings/funerals.

I have been retired for 26 years and no longer have a career.

My career was mostly demotivating, moreso as time went along. My position got eliminated post merger, 5 months before planned retirement.

In retirement, I might want to keep SOME income trickling in for fun spending. However, it won't be tied to working FOR someone or having anyone working for me, flexible hours where I call the shots, according to my needs and customer's desires.
