It's like early feminists used to say that women have to be twice as good as a man to be thought half as well of. Very similar dynamic at least in the Bible Belt. In my part of the country it doesn't even come up, which is the best of all.

I refuse to be intimidated by their tactics. It's actually kind of fun to laugh in their faces at their nonsense. They're not used to it and typically freak out.
