you look dubiously at the sky and look down at the basket of wet washing in your hand and optimistically think...."oh what the hell...it MIGHT brighten up"
Then you make a cuppa, sit on the lounge and DOWN it pours! And no piss weak drizzle where I live. When it rains it fuckin pours!

on the bright side I do have other clothes to wear, unlike my 20 yr old who saves up two weeks of dirty clothes because he has nothing left to wear. I say nothing. It is better to let them live and learn. (and it gives me a giggle to hear him whinge)

I thought the sun always shone in your fair country but of course it is mid winter with you. Most people here dry their clothes outside but be careful in the ultra religious western isles. If you have washing out on a saturday evening someone will phone to remind you. It is sacreligious to have washing out on a sunday.
I frequently visit N.E. USA and I have yet to see any washing hanging outside. I wonder is it because it is against byelaws or are people frightened that their clothes will be stolen.

It because most are too lazy / preoccupied to take the time or energy to do it.

@glennlab And tumble driers are cheap and convenient

I always air dry my clothes . I remember my first wash after leaving home, ruined half of my clothes with bleach .
