How important are rituals to you? How do you feel about rituals? Perhaps you don't engage in rituals or believe in them. I am interested in your perceptions, experiences with rituals, opinions on such and so forth.

Silly rituals was the first reason that turned me off of religion. Also, God takes attendance? He can't tell that my heart is good unless I get up on Sunday morning?!

I'm all done with rituals. I even just want a party for my funeral, and I signed papers to donate my body to the UNM medical school.

@Sam-a-Lamb Sure, LOL! I just added the party stipulation (at my expense) so my daughter would have an excuse to get together with her peeps, and added to be sure to have plenty of food, beer, wine, and cannabis (depending on legality at the time). Of course she could skip the party, but I said the people who wanted to honor me could celebrate as they pleased.

The way that I understand it ritual is a way of maintaining order whether it be religious, personal or ceremonial.

There is a thin line between ritual and obsession, however.

An illustrative example is Roman religion. They didn’t care which religion any individual embraced so long as they paid tribute, such as burning incense to the gods. If the gods were not acknowledged disaster would ensue. This is the reason Christianity was considered subversive. To the Roman’s it was just another Jewish Messianic sect, but to not praise the gods was unthinkable!

I have no rituals...I like to be spontaneous....no set times or patterns. Unless having a preprandial drink counts...but I mix that up too, it’s not always the same tipple and the time varies, so no I don’t feel I have any ritualistic tendencies, perhaps because I never had religion in my life I never felt the need.

Getting up and going to work is ritualistic enough for me.

No ... I don’t do them at all. Now I do certain things in sequence for a reason but I wouldn’t consider it in anyway a ritual.
