Right now we have a very low unemployment rate. IMO it would help our economy if we allowed more immigrants into our country. We probably need more workers. Our population is getting older...more young people would boost our economy and more people would be paying into Social Security.

With a low unemployment rate, our economy needs no help ~

I agree....we need to start by raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour. @maturin1919

Right now the system is tilted in favor of the rich. @SaucyCheryl

@SaucyCheryl Yur fightin the right people ..but the wrong way 😉

This is misleading. This country is very generous with legal immigrants. The process to receive immigrants willing to assimilate and contribute is in place and lot of people comply and become proud US citizens on regular basis all year long. It has been like this for decades.

@NoPlanetB I wasn't looking for a discussion based on emotions. Immigrants that follow the process become citizens, that's a fact.

I posted this morning how I was a semi-legal immigrant in US and a bad one. I was treated very well....then again I am pink!

@Amisja define semi-legal please

@NoPlanetB The process has been abused, I'll give you that much. It has been abused for years by human traffic scum bags that kidnap little children and bring them to the border, so they can use them as their ticket for "asylum". How nice is that?. It's sad that a lot of bad stuff gets clowded by TDS.

@NoPlanetB one is too many

@NoPlanetB Takes one to know one I guess then.....

@NoPlanetB Sure, let's run with that....

Compassion and any sense of humanity are sadly lacking in the current administration.

Wonderful sentiment that used to be us

bobwjr Level 10 July 16, 2019

Even if practically we can't even get close to doing this, it was the dream of many and the values of most of us...without lofty ideals and heart, we would not be America...

We have to work on how to return to this with a better system that is fair and doable for many more...without trampling on the sentiment and vision of our forefathers.

I wish France would just take it back. We don't deserve it. No matter what anyone else is saying in this post, this is the Statue of Liberty and let's face it, we are not good flame holders of the idea of liberty. That is why I never will recite the pledge of allegiance "with liberty and justice for all" when/where/how

You do deserve it...USA is not the president. You guys are.

That’s getting worn… Never US policy, it still isn’t. Though, ‘we’ continue to take in more legal immigrants every year than any other nation. And, that’s likely too many..

Varn Level 8 July 16, 2019

Biggest economy, richest country, plenty of space, broadest shoulders....yes you’re probably right you're definitely full up and too poor to take any more!

@Marionville We could likely empty several nations … but along with me, most would not like to live in the depleted conditions that would result.. If the citizens of any other nation would like our illegal immigrants ..take them ~

@Varn In your reply you referred to LEGAL refugees and it was to that I addressed my remarks...never suggesting that you you should take illegals for even a moment. Refugees, however, are a different case entirely and I would expect the USA take its fair proportion, relative to its size and wealth.

@Marionville Not sure what our millions, or billions in foreign aid are doing lately, but too many are declaring themselves refugees in order to chance better economic opportunities. I’d say we stop taking anyone, live within our means, and make ourselves an example of economic and environmental balance.. But as that won’t likely go ..at least slow down the flow on every front.

These days, when I see the Statue of Liberty, it makes me cry. Hope and decency have left this country. The public health crisis of tRump is a disease that is going to be fatal to our country.
