There is one thing I don't understand (as an outside observer of politics in the US) : why can't liberals and democrats in the US ignore a single one of Trump's idiotic tweets?
Trump the tweeter in chief intends two things: firstly, he wants to whip up his own supporters, giving them so to speak the daily food ration of racism, sexism, hate..., secondly, he wants to anger his opponents, force them to react furiously.

Why do the Democrats, like trained dogs, jump over every little stick Trump holds out to them? Why can't they shrug and say "The next racist tweet from that moron? So what? Let's move on".
But no: they always get terribly upset and furious, and of course they give Trump a lot of pleasure because it allows him to press the same button again and again.

Is that really an intelligent reaction? Because we must not forget: Trump is not a politician, he is a narcissist who is at home in the show-biz, someone who needs the applause from the one side as well as the booing from the other side.

A lot of my liberal friends have driven themselves practically into mental breakdown over Trump, and it seems mostly self-inflicted to me. I do think he’s dangerous so I keep an eye on things casually, from a distance, but I don’t obsess over his every move, because I don’t want that kind pollution in my daily mindspace.
He will do his damage and then we will do what we can to repair it. That’s how this game works. Emotional stress is not constructive.

And the Republicans never had a negative thing to say about Obama--right. It's just the cycle of hate the two sides have fostered over the past several decades. It just keeps the blind followers of one side or the other from thinking for themselves and looking at the issues factually.

There's plenty of 'intelligent' reactions. They just don't make good headlines.
"Racist says racist stuff." "People say "What a cunt!"" "Cunts say "You can't call us cunts for being cunty! That's unamerkin!""
That's what baits the clicks, I'm afraid.

I think this is an issue of survivorship bias. Basically, you only see the people who are getting upset and you can't see those who do not, so it looks like everyone is getting upset, when in reality it is only a very small percentage of the whole.

For those who do chose to respond, it is always emotional reaction, which Trump happens to be very good at triggering. The supporters feel like they have to resist or else he will win, and his supporters feel like they should attack on his command. The only way to stop this is through constant self reflection and serious introspection coupled with analysis of ones own decisions.

Of course, if everyone did that then society would most likely fail.

You are correct. The worst thing anyone can do to Trump is to COMPLETELY IGNORE him! However, the news media sees his 'tweets' as news, and the two main political parties are compelled to respond!

Would you prefer that we repeat Heinrich Boll's Billiards at Half Past Nine? Doesn't not responding to Trump's remarks legitimize them? I think not responding to this racist neonazi could be quite dangerous...

I don't read them. But they are official presidential statements and have to be responded to in some way.

It is promoted by the news media. Simply put it drives ratings.
Shock ,anger, outrage all makes good copy. I have pointedly avoided American media for the last year or so. When I do check in it is invariably the same crap. I would make an assumption that most people just ignore the show

Well said.

That’s what I do also

@WilliamFleming
Same here.

Trump's racism has to be condemned and denounced; if it isn't, less intelligent people will get the idea that it's ok to be racist. Look at all the racists and white nationalists who crawled out of the woodwork once trump was elected.
