Trump and his attack on 'the four' - an assessment
Firstly – I dislike Trump – he is a poor excuse for a human.
Secondly – many people on this site ‘hate’ Trump, and allow that hatred to cloud their judgement into giving trite comments indicating their abhorrence, etc of the marmalade one…
Thirdly – few democrat supporters actually assess what Trump is saying and doing, or more importantly, why
I was trained to exclude emotion when assessing situations and that is how I try to look at Trumps tweets and manouvering – my assessment – he may be despicable, but he is not stupid – he has a great feel for marketing his brand to his supporters and an intelligent approach to political strategy. (maybe not him personally, but certainly someone in his team)
The furore over the four left wing ladies ‘going back to where they came from and fixing the problems there’ is a masterful political tactic.

  1. He appeals directly to the well developed prejudices of his core supporters
  2. His message forces democrats to rally around the four far left women, whose do not reflect the majority view – so the whole party must swing a little further left of centre
  3. This leftward shift will cause centrist moderate Americans to review democrat policy as it will affect them. Some, if not a majority may decide Trump for all his faults is a safer bet for them than an ultra left demomocrat party.
This attack, on the face of it another Trump outburst, could lead to democrats choosing an unelectable far left candidate and a second term for Trump

Thank you. I have been think that for some time but I’m not American so I’ve not really wanted to engage in US political process. I don’t mind challenging the individuals or people though, but democratic process is bigger than one man.

I am not american, i get no vote, but trumps actions affect the whole world

Yeah he's totally manipulating everyone using smoke and mirrors to take attention from the horrible things he's doing and rallying his base forcing us further left to antagonize the middle and right to go against common sense

common sense - one of the least common commodities in the world

I totally agree with your assessment. After I get angry and disgusted by this man of low character, I have to step back and just analyze what is happening.

I think you underestimate the large group of people with power and money who do realize that the minority far left part of the Democrat Party is not anything we can or will support. While I love the energy and some of the ideas, I am not one to advocate the total overhaul and disruption of our government by going in a total opposite direction. There are a lot more people that are patient and looking at the long range planning rather than reacting to every single thing that chump puts out. We are not new to this political game nor to people like trump.

Change will happen incrementally by following a carefully designed plan, the first of which is to fund candidates that are of quality and that have the support of more of the democrats other than the far left. The fund raisers I have attended have narrowed down the candidates, and while some of the ideas are a bit left, the overall platform is not. More drastic changes can only happen if the Senate is also won, so that is also a focus.

I think in the next group of debates, you will see more messages that will appeal to everyday people...healthcare, infrastructure, economy, acceptance, and border security will rank high up...climate, global concerns/military, and a myriad of other issues will then follow.

I think most people are tired of the daily barrage of hate and the roller coaster ride that puts us all on edge. The media portrays so many of our people on both sides as being extreme and ugly, but in reality, we are neighbors, friends, family and we have to get back to that. No more extreme politics...I will be happy with a milktoast candidate who just goes to work daily and stays out of the limelight, but in this day and age, maybe there is no such thing anymore.

The problem is twofold - democrats are having to fight amongst themselves to produce a candidate, while trump is jabbing occasionally to push the democrats discussion / agenda leftward. Both are detrimental to the democrat cause.
The presidency is not decided by left or right wing, but by the centre - and as democrats shove far left ideas into the spotlight, whether adopted or not, centrist perception may be that the far left is a bigger threat than trump, who they already know.

@ShadowAmicus I will tell you that there are political strategists that know more than all of us about this dilemma ...they have already figured it out...patience is not something we Americans are good at, but the centrists are a way more patient group...let's see who stands out after the next debate...I believe I know who they will be...a nice mix, but, the final will be a good choice for us all...

@thinktwice hope democrats have some brains behind the scenes - little evidence of a coherent strategy so far

@ShadowAmicus a good poker player does not need to show their hand... 😉

@thinktwice cards close to their chest, holding the aces, - etc

Trump studied Hitler . . . . if someone is smart enough to make the comparison, and hit him with his own methods, he may regret driving the party to the left. There are a lot more Americans on the left than the plutocrats would like to believe, and a smart approach could bring down the whole house of cards.
Of course there were some idiots in the democratic party who were saying that democrats should not criticize democrats . . . . . with that kind of strategy, they may as well hand the keys to Hitler's protégé.

You just don't get the problem - the presidency is decided by centrists and which way they swing - whoever wins the centre wins the election

No, YOU don't get the REAL problem . . . . . you could put a chimpanzee in office, and it would not make any difference, the same coups, wars-for-profit, depleted uranium, white phosphorous used in weapons, nuclear weapons all over the planet just waiting to be fired off, environment shot to hell beyond all repair, and plutocrats and corporations calling the shots while for the citizens, it is nothing but one big shit sandwich, and everyone gets to take a bite! That is the real problem.
