This stuff about getting older is messed up!! I have discovered I have "not insignificant" hearing loss. There are hearing aids in my future. As with most experiences I know I'm not alone. If you have hearing loss or hearing issues and/or wear hearing aids, or just want to know more about them, lets talk. Join me at Hearing Loss or What the heck did you say? [agnostic.com]

Yep, I was diagnosed with the same, much to my surprise. I just thought that it was the rest of the world that weren't talking loud enough!!!!!!!!! Fortunately I am not at the hearing horn placed to the ear stage yet, although I have found myself saying eh a few times............

My husband is a drummer...when he was younger, he did not wear ear plugs while playing. He has significant hearing loss now. It is causing a lot of problems, especially since I have refused to be his mouthpiece when he can't hear or understand what people are saying. He has to wear headphones to watch TV since the volume would be so loud as to drown out or hurt the ears of others. I have made his getting a hearing aid a condition of my continuing our marriage...yes, it is THAT serious...think of all of the things I have asked him to do or told him and he can't hear any of it...

I, on the other hand, can hear a pin drop in the next room...the sound of a dripping faucet drives me crazy and I can hear my husband's car a few streets away....

I am interested in learning more about the best hearing aids for my husband...

I guess l have been lucky. A lot of drummers lose hearing in one ear if the bass has primarily been on one side through their career. Why is he reluctant, aids are so small now.

@Sticks48 I think he is dealing with aging...he has agreed to go once we get settled. I am very tired of speaking to the universe...grrrrr

I have a similar problem. A musician in late 70’s - early 90’s. A few years ago I was losing the upper register and went to the docs for a syringing. He said nothing to do with wax it was the music. I told him I’d not played for 20 years but apparently the damage is done but may not be immediately apparent

@Geoffrey51 Exactly...hearing loss happens over time...there will be many people who will have hearing loss due to loud music in too small a space...cars, earphones, etc....no one pays attention because they are not thinking of 10-30 years down the road...I wear earplugs at concerts that are too loud and even if they are mowing my lawn and I am outside...too loud=loss of hearing...I am sorry it happened to you...

You will save well over $2000.00 (!!!!!) by getting your hearing aids at a Costco with an audio shop....their people do not work on commission, so what they recommend is right...plus, best hearing test I had of the 3 places I researched, and they threw in a couple freebies (a drier, & a remote operator for changing conditions of sound) the same warranty, guarantee, free repairs/resets etc as everybody.

oh thanks! We have one near our house!!!

There are two in Omaha. My closest (pass it on the way to work) was booked up for 6 week. I called the further one, and have an appointment 3 weeks earlier.

Yes the slow creep to decrepitude is upon us. Best to try and laugh about cause it's the road we are all on. I know there is some but since I still hear better than everyone around me I'm not concerned. It the other stuff, digestion changes, gas, aches and pain oh and vision changes. I gave up coloring my hair years ago. Need I go on? LOL Good morning, have another cuppa coffee.

I also have sciatica, not uncommon in those over 60. Who wrote that users manual, I'd like to kick their ass, but I might mess up my back again.

I sorry to hear that...I have a couple of friends who are suffering from hearing loss....it’s very common as we get older. One seems unaware of it and doesn’t appear to have gone to have her hearing assessed, sitting in a car with her is horrendous....she shouts so loudly and I have to do the same back, it reverberates around in the small confined space. My sympathies go with you.
