Mindfulness Meditation is not just a trend, in keeping with bring hip and cool.. I learned the technnique with a free mobile app on my phone "headspace" over the couse of 10 days- one lesson a day. As usual I was skeptical, but needed to learn to quiet my mind and surrender to relaxation. With practice neuro-genesis [see below] does take place in the brain so that this 'present and peaceful' state of being can be called upon for moments at a time...to REST! If I am busy all day, let's say planning for a rehearsal at night, a bit frenzied and worn out,- I can lay down, access this state of being, and almost immediately my heart-rate, breathing, blood pressure and muscle tension softens and slows- so i can get the benefits of 'rest' in a 4 or 5 minute session.

Would you be willing to try?
On YouTube there are numerous minefulness meditations......but be very selective, many of them are nonsense. Give yourself this gift---ask me questions. This 'technique' is one of the most useful 'self-help' methodology I have ever taught myself.
."Programs based on Kabat-Zinn's and similar models have been adopted in schools, prisons, hospitals, veterans' centers, and other environments, and mindfulness programs have been applied for additional outcomes such as for healthy aging, weight management, athletic performance, helping children with special needs, and as an intervention during the perinatal period.

Clinical studies have documented both physical- and mental-health benefits of mindfulness in different patient categories as well as in healthy adults and children.[3][26] Research studies have consistently shown a positive relationship between trait mindfulness and psychological health."

ADDENDUM,
Definition of terms: Neuroplasticity refers to the lifelong capacity of the brain to change and rewire itself in response to the stimulation of learning and experience. Neurogenesis is the ability to create new neurons and connections between neurons throughout a lifetime. The latter process is also referred to as synaptogenesis.

I took a class in "secular mindfulness meditation" for a few weeks but didn't see any benefit from it. I'm not an anxious or obsessive person by nature anyway. I think my wife, who IS both of those things, felt it was more beneficial, though still not dramatically so.

How does Kabat-Zinn relate to secular mindfulness mediation, which is based on Thereveda? Do you happen to know?

Interesting, and thanks for the post.. I appear to be nearly surrounded by those speaking of ‘mindfulness.’ I’d come to quietly dismiss it as new age religion, but perhaps it’s more?

Many, if not most are aging Hippies, of which I’m the generation behind… But when one proves themselves, or impresses me, exhibiting understanding and behavior beyond my experience or current ability, I attempt to learn … if at a distance 🙂

Love regeneration but need to do more

I am a veteran and this religious mindful crap teaches us vets to ignore or redefine serious pain.....leaving medical conditions untreated ....I admit "it works" but that still leaves vets aging degenerating in body while we experience induced distracting bliss....if not worse allowing tumors to grow muscles atrophy and ulcers to calcify

I have a great deal of mindfulness. I think it comes from my desire to know everything and the realization that such knowing is impossible. Over the weekend I rebuilt a swivel chair mechanism and a door lock mechanism and I'm very happy with this. I did them both before but found out this time how to do it better. In truth the swivel chair should be thrown away and I could have spent $15 to do the door lock mechanism. Doing it "my way" I learn more things and also save money.

Good for you. Love to tinker and do things like this. It is a mental challenge of what you actually need at times to do the repair but once you see something every thing falls into place. Plus good for the environment to repair and reuse instead of disposal

Looks good, Dear Laura... Might be helpful in my trials ahead... -Brendan
