When God told Abraham to kill his son, he was forcing him to choose between loyalty and morality. Ab blew it choosing obedience. He should have said, “No Lord, I will NOT kill my son. What kind of God are you to tell me to do such a thing? Evidently my moral standard is higher than yours.”
Republicans face the same dilemma today and their abandonment of principle imperils our country. I am most severely disappointed in fundamentalists who claim piety, but demonstrate ruthlessness and cruelty.
Perfect example of how religion warps judgement, common sense, even family/other love
It rather proves that the bible is fiction does it not? Nobody would chose obedience to an unseen being over killing their own son...unless they were deranged and hearing voices that is! As for politicians...they all do what will keep them in power, the complexion makes little difference. Morality rarely enters into the equation.
I suspect you were correct about the mental instabily. When looking closely at Muhamed, I can see he most likely suffered from a Oligodendroglioma of the left temporal lobe of his brain. This produced moments of extreme intellect and clarity in early and stable stages, which then as the tumour develops generates hallucinations and paralysis of the right side and then death.
@Sofabeast I wasn’t aware of that. I just think that frankly all the so called holy books and texts are bunkum...but so sad that so many have killed because of what is written in them...and it’s still happening to this day. A plague on all of them is my attitude.
@Marionville Indeed, consider the Boyne. What led up to it and the fall out to the current day. Religion had and has a lot to do with it.
Now BoJo is in, I fear the troubles will return - that's why I'll be off to Derry on Tuesday before the poo cloggs the fan!
@Sofabeast Enjoy your trip to Derry...it’s beautiful along the River Foyle on a day like today, when the sun is shining,
