When the Normans built Durham Cathedral, they certainly made an emphatic statement of their power! Just look at those pillars and the towering ceiling, built over 900 years ago, and this modern stained glass window, depicting the history of Durham.
I've spent most of today looking around it, and listening to a Swedish choir singing there.
Fabulous place - so why waste it on fervent God-botherers?
Ely cathedral in Cambridgeshire is similar in age and magnificence.
That's one on my bucket list.
Gorgeous, I wish that one day I can see it for myself.
Wishes have been known to come true.
