What's the nicest thing you've done for a stranger?

I answered “pay my taxes” in a jokingly way, but seriously, if after spending the obscene amounts we do for the military we stil have money for social programs that help those in need, then paying my taxes is the nicest thing I have done for “many” people!

I repaired a RV that was stuck at a rest stop.

So many things if I have to pick one it's my secret Santa. I've been doing it for over 20 years. Every year I pick someone who I come into contact with thats having a shit time of it and I buy them a gift. It's been anything from £250 for Christmas shopping for their kids to a week away from it all or maybe something as small as doing that one thing they've never managed to do. I never leave any clues to who has given the gift but I always leave a note to ask for a secret word if someone decides to take the credit so they known they're lying (it's happened more than once which isn't nice especially when they get caught out but its best to know the liars amongst your friends I guess) and I just go about my life with no-one ever knowing 🙂 I love doing it

Love the secret word, that's cool, I'd never have thought of that.

I've done nice things for strange animals. One fall Sunday afternoon in 2007 I was watching football with my ex, when I suddenly got up, said I wanted to visit the Minor Clark Fish Hatchery, about a 40 minute drive from there.

My ex gave me strange look, but was used to me. At the hatchery property, I hurried to a distant lagoon pond, circled it, then ducked under overhanging branches and saw the tip of a beak sticking above the water.

It was a first year Great Blue Heron, caught underwater in an otter trap. My ex and I worked together to pry the trap open and released the heron, then drove 100 miles to a wildlife rehab center in the next state that would take a bird on a Sunday.

In the car, I wondered how that bird knew to "call" me to come help it. Most people wouldn't have bothered. Then I suddenly remembered I'd swum out into the same lagoon that spring to free a fledgling Great Blue Heron that was entangled in a sunken log snag.

Apparently, when it found itself trapped again, it just waited until I came.

The faith of the bird saved it.

In the market, I saw an elderly lady looking at fruit and vegetables... she shook her head while waling fromsdisplay to display. I stood next to her and heard her mumbling 'My God I can't afford to eat any more." So I turned to her and we started a conversation regardingthe the cost of living, that has become not obtainable for some. So, I said 'why don't you tell me what you like and I see if we can get it for you' We filled little bags with grapes, oranges, apples, avocado, tomato, nuts, mushrooms .. strolled through other aisles and added something here and there, like soup etc. I asked if she liked more .. some cheese .. oh yes nd bread. Anyway went to the checkout and she had 3 full bags full of sustainable items. She cried as I handed swiped my credit crd and paid for it all. Walked with the her to the door and ask where she parked. "I don't own a car' she said. Don't live too far. I said 'Wait here' So, I got quickly what I came for and met her outside wentto my car and loaded the bags in the trunk. "So, tell me where you live" She did and I took her to a row of small apartments nearby and helped her wth the grocery bags inside. Hugged her ... One can't have a better feeling inside than helping a poor human and rescuing an animal from a killing shelter.

I bought a cup of coffee to give to a guy outside in the snow. He was trying to preach the Bible, but he was so quiet and so passive about it that he didn't attract any attention. I wanted to tell him that the one guy who was being nice to him today was a guy who thought his religion was full of shit, but for some reason I held back. Maybe I felt bad for how cold he was.
