Sounds a bit elitist and reinforcing stratification.

It means people can be excluded because they are not deemed worthy enough and so bring the average down.

Social selection and Nazism on the way.

Or maybe we can embrace everyone and not worry about the outcomes.

Hmmm. Got me thinking. I think that might be true. So by spending additional time with those I differ with might change who they are and the same with me. Sounds the opposite of polarizing. Might this catch on?

No really opposite of polarizing. It is just finding company of the inspiring, motivating and positive that can help you break out of the old and move forward to something better.

@St-Sinner And it reminds me of that idea that we are different people to the various people we know in our lives...we are not the same person in every context, if that makes sense? I wish I could recall the quote exactly.
