The 45th annual G7 Summit is set to kick off on Aug. 24 in the seaside town of Biarritz in France. What with the imminent G7 Summit, and many world leaders concerned about the burning of the Amazon rainforest, many people wonder how they can help to positively influence what Brazil's president decides to do about his nation's threat to global climate.
.................................................................................................

"Indigenous Peoples under threat
The Brazilian government, under president Jair Bolsonaro, is giving clear signals about its intentions to sacrifice the Amazon and its incredible biodiversity for quick money. They plan on opening it up for exploitation; turning invaluable forests into everyday products, like beef, soy, timber and aluminium. There are over 180 different Indigenous Peoples and thousands of local communities who call the Brazilian Amazon their home. They are the guardians of the forest. They are on the frontlines, facing the powerful agricultural, mining and logging industries. As deforestation has increased, they are experiencing a dramatic escalation in violence from criminal groups invading and occupying their lands.
.................................................................................................

The world's last climate solution
Further deforestation of the Amazon rainforest will cause more catastrophic climate change impacts in Brazil, and beyond. The climate breakdown is the worst crisis humanity is facing. Plans to allow further exploitation of the Amazon rainforest are not only a threat for Brazilians, they represent a fatal blow to any hope of keeping the planet’s temperature from rising beyond 1.5ºC."
.................................................................................................

What do you know about that can be done to save the Amazon rainforest--from writing protest letters and emails, signing petitions, or volunteering?

The capitalist want the world to burn if they can profit. After all, what do they care after they are dead like David Koch

So they wish to turn the world into hell, as long as they are Top Dogs or Devils, like David Koch.

@AnonySchmoose That's it in a nutshell

Meanwhile those with the money and the power to do anything about it don't give a fiddler's f*** so your point is? Those of us in the US are allowing them to destroy the US from inside and we'd like to help another country?

Most of the member nations of the G7 Summit apparently do give a F.F. about the issue of rainforest destruction. Amazon rainforest destruction will affect the entire world, so that is the point and the reason to address the subject of what Brazil's capitalist president is doing by actually encouraging the destruction, i.e. the deforestation with the eventual result becoming savanna lands, which will soon after experience desertification.

@AnonySchmoose I was referencing the United States in general not the rest of the G7.

Assassinate the President of Brazil. He is a threat to the ENTIRE PLANET. This climate crisis is not something you turn on or off with a switch. You treat him as you would any mass murderer. You eliminate him.

They oughta kick trump out, and call it the G6. The US would be re-admitted on the condition that we Dump Trump!

Trump's solution to the Amazon wildfire will be to monetize it somehow. "If it's gonna burn anyway, we should at least make some money off of it."

@creative51 How capitalism and corporate greed thinks.

I’m surprised he hasn’t asked them about their raking schedule? 🤡

@StarvingArtist That's all it's ever about with Trump. He sees no value in anything beyong it's monetary worth. The guy's a black hole of emptiness in an ill-fitting suit.

Yes, money is the god of this world. I posted about this fact: ""Take man's most fantastic invention - God."

I wish I knew exactly what to do. The rise of the political right wing is global. We have to be committed to social, racial and economic justice, to overthrowing the systems that benefit the capitalists and keep the fading middle class in a state of fear. We need radical solutions that begin with creating community with affected people: Indigenous and Immigrant, Poor and Working Classes, People of Color...See them, stand with them, give up our privilege and let them lead...

I agree with all you say and that is what we need, but humanity is awash in ignorance, apathy, make-believe reality and greed, just to name a few of our flaws that can keep any of this from happening.

@jlynn37 I know you’re right. We start with loving and protecting our family, our friends, our community. Create these circles of respect and love and radiate outwards. One person at a time. One family. One community. Imagine.

@StarvingArtist Me too in my way. I’ve had up to a dozen people living in my home—extended family, homeless, water protectors, people battling addiction...I create a space where we garden, cook, support each other in the best ways we know how. People come here from all parts of the country sometimes just to decompress from whatever is stressing them. They know they have a safe space to come to and they’ll be welcome.

@StarvingArtist Larger...do tell!
