Somewhere over the Rainbow . . . From the movie, Wizard of OZ . . . played on a Thermin . . . .

Originally sung by Judy Garland in the movie . . . 1939!

Frank Baum's novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" was published in 1900, and seems to have been an attempt at social satire, as well as a children's book. It also seems to have been an effort at transposing "Gullivers Travels" to an American setting. I always get a laugh out of the Wiz telling the scarecrow that all he needs is a diploma!

I posted this on 17th August in the “This Day In History Group “ as that day in 1939 The Wizard Of Oz opened at Leows Capital Theatre, New York. Was I wrong...I got the information online when I looked it up?

Buddy Ebsen was going to play the tin Man but he was allergic to the silver makeup.

It wasn't until the late sixties that I found out that it turned to color once they got to Oz, damn black and white TV. 😁
