Can we and should we separate a man from his body of work if that man has done wrong in his personal life?

In another post, I wondered why the Neverland Ranch has never been turned into a tourist destination like Graceland. Inevitably, the issue of MJs alleged pedophilia came up. While it was never proven in a court of law, the evidence does strongly suggest MJ was often a bit too fond of kids.

Personally, I think he probably was a pedo.

If so, what should that mean for his legacy? Should his entire body of work be shunned? The same goes for men like Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein -- absolute scumbags whose crimes are inexcusable and proven and whose bodies of work are brilliant.

So that's my question; can we and should we separate the man from his body of work or is it all too tainted and should all be cast aside in condemnation of their crimes?

I guess I feel they should be remembered for both. The entertainment creations of the people you mentioned are still available and still enjoyed by many. I don't want those creationss to go away and if the subject comes up with some of my children and grandchildren I will try to use it as a teaching and investigative moment.

I can't. That is for each person to decide. Hitler rebuilt the German economy, and brought pride back to Germany. Should that be what he is remembered for? They may not be Hitler, but they are or were very bad men, and that is what they should be remembered for, period.

This is a conundrum many people have pondered. Some of the most creative people in history have had some very dark skeletons in their closets. My belief is that their work should be appreciated on its own merits, and if there are skeletons, they should be used as a teaching example if they come up. That being said, Neverland Ranch was NOT part of his creative body of work, it was a pedophile's child grooming facility. Burn it to the ground.

I can just imagine the audio tour: "And here is the bed where Michael slept naked with little boys"
