In the spirit of science-based agnosticism, I can’t make a claim that I know what she experienced wasn’t real. It seems more likely though, since her story is quite common, that evolution created mechanisms in our brains that present these scenarios (dreams?) in such a believable way because the belief in them contributes toward our survival in some way.

What I do feel able to pass judgement on is whether she is sincere, or lying, and I’m convinced she does truly believe this story herself. I believe she had the experience she related, but whether that experience was a reflection of objective reality or a very convincing, archetypal “dream” is a matter for future scientists to sort out. Currently, I would put my money on the latter.
