There is so much wrong with Christianity, mainly the part where devotees are required to "WORSHIP" their God but also the hypocrisy, by that I refer to the requirement for Christians to be charitable and this is itself is oxymoronic insofar as, with the Catholic church, of which The Vatican is the "Head Office" so to speak, the Catholic church is far from charitable.
The Vatican is estimated to be worth circa $10 to $15 billion (U.S) but then that is just The Vatican, world wide the Catholic church is estimated to be worth around $1.7 trillion (U.S) but somehow they don't seem to be willing to use any of that worth to help others, they DO HOWEVER like to use some of it to help paedophile priests escape justice but homelessness, hunger, poverty, famine and disease are not qualifying criteria and so I have to ask, why do people want to be Catholic? Anglicans are just as bad, Church of England, our Queen is the head of that particular organisation and yet, when her own subjects are struggling to put food on the table for their children, facing eviction due to poverty and being governed by a government that only looks after the wealthy, she chooses to deliver her Christmas message from a room so overstuffed with gold as to be insulting and this slapper is the head of a fucking church.
I hate religion, it does nothing but harm although saying that, I am a member of a church myself, The First Church of Appliantology in Canoga Park, California and that church does nothing but good for so many millions of people, check it out.

I would not be so hard on Christianity, sure, there is a ton of hypocrisy there. I tend to believe that people that act in such a manner regardless of what religion they held, and if there were no religions they would think of some other vehicle to abuse. This is character thing, given the chance to excuse bad behavior many would do just about anything to excuse themselves, it's more lying to themselves than anything else.

Stone masons were not paid union wages 800 years ago in Colongue or distant quarries... worship of architecture is worship of slavery....I have never heard of Appliantology???? Hatred of religion is well founded but not the core of Atheism.... real Atheists examine the facts and evaluate the claims of believers to conclude faith is 100 % harmful fiction....especially in all those religious business buildings where so much rape and terror is taught by example not just homilies

There are plenty of Religious people who do good, they are not all the same.

Have to agree with what you say . There are , however , good folks who raise money and build , staff and supply hospitals , orphanages , schools , shelters , and meals for the homeless . Just because someone is religious , does not necessarly mean they are bad .

The main point of religion is not this life but the after-life. Sure they all tout good deeds in this life but I think they also recognize the task is just too daunting. The one part of "Jesus (the) Christ, Superstar" that really spoke to this issue is when he is surrounded by hoards asking him to 'feel me, touch me and heal me' and he can't because the numbers are too great. We think with a few gestures we can solve all problems but I know our help too often makes the problems worse. The road to hell is literally paved with good intentions.

True belief is nothing but a value judgment, an emotion that arises spontaneously, yet churches try to force people to believe through guilt and fear. Of what value is an assertion if it is made at gun point?

Worship and reverence are not things that people do because they are told to—those are very valuable and admirable behaviors that arise spontaneously in response to deep awareness and appreciation. Of what value are the trappings of worship as a mere formality?

Some good might come from charitable contributions given out of a sense of duty, but that’s not the message of Jesus as described in the Bible. Logically we should feel love and oneness with all people.

Coming from England also, where practicing Christians are effectively a minority, I have often noticed that they are often among the meanest and least charitable of people, at least towards the larger community. I think that, in part, this is because they are asked to give so much, time, money, thought and effort to the church and the rest of the congregation, that there is little left when they step out of the church door.

Or maybe the religion just attracts mean people.

@linxminx Yep, they take the statement by Jesus that, the poor will always be with you, as a target you sometimes think. And if you are a sensitive person do not go to Christopher Hitchins and his remarks about how, his least favourite person Mother Teresa ran, as he called it, 'a cult of suffering'.

If all those mean people were not going to church they might be burglarizing your house!

@Fernapple Yes, it was Teresa's "cult of suffering" that actually put you closer to god. After all, didn't Jesus suffer on the cross? You must suffer the same way and it is OK if you get sick and die. You might suffer your way into heaven.
