Not understanding science is not the same thing as science being untrue. Imagine saying that because you don't understand French or Spanish or German, those languages must not be real. It's a foolish notion.
The evolutionary process is an established fact in science because ALL the evidence backs it up. Whereas the notion of intelligent design is not only NOT backed up by ANY scientifically proven evidence, it suffers from a significant and utterly illogical flaw, consider, if we're too complex to exist without having been created by an infinitely more complex creator, how could THAT creator have come into existence without having himself been first created by a yet more infinitely more complex creator, an so on ad infinitum. You see creationism is ultimately based upon the concept of devolution from the spontaneously created infinitely complex, which is a logical impossibility. QED.
Therefore I would suggest that in the absence of a demonstrably reasonable, rational and convincing answer to the question every child at some point in time has asked, 'Who created god?' A question which no theologian has ever satisfactorily answered, to use god, religion or religious beliefs as an excuse to harm others is by definition, a grossly inadequate and unacceptable excuse.
They create the problem by assigning this "god" such complexity, self-awareness, will, and volition; and they further complicate it by assigning human attributes to it. I have often wondered why they can accept an eternal god being (with all its illogical issues) but dismiss an eternal energy-that is both creative and destructive-but has no self-awareness, will and volition.
