Joe Biden to rich donors: "Nothing would fundamentally change" if he's elected
Along with praise for the "civility" of racists, Biden assures donors "no one's standard of living will change"
Former Vice President Joe Biden assured rich donors at a ritzy New York fundraiser that “nothing would fundamentally change” if he is elected.
Biden told donors at an event at the Carlyle Hotel in Manhattan on Tuesday evening that he would not “demonize” the rich and promised that “no one’s standard of living will change, nothing would fundamentally change,” Bloomberg News reported.
Biden’s assurance to donors in New York came shortly after his appearance at the Poor People’s Campaign Presidential Forum in Washington on Monday.
Biden said that poverty was “the one thing that can bring this country down” and listed several new programs to help the poor that he would fund if elected.
“We have all the money we need to do it,” he said.
But speaking to wealthy donors in New York, Biden appeared to suggest that his plan would not involve big tax hikes on the rich.
“I mean, we may not want to demonize anybody who has made money,” he said. “The truth of the matter is, you all, you all know, you all know in your gut what has to be done. We can disagree in the margins but the truth of the matter is it’s all within our wheelhouse and nobody has to be punished. No one’s standard of living will change, nothing would fundamentally change.”
Biden went on to say that the rich should not be blamed for income inequality, pleading to the donors, “I need you very badly.”
“I hope if I win this nomination, I won’t let you down. I promise you,” he added.

- It used to be that centrist Democrats would simply ignore Medicare for All.
Now that they can't do that anymore, they're spending donor money - most of it from Democrats - to figure out how to kill support in the party for single payer.
According to a Bloomberg piece published yesterday, a new poll by a firm linked to Joe Biden is testing messages designed to undercut support among Democrats for Medicare for All.
"The survey, commissioned by the centrist Democratic think tank Third Way, found that primary voters start off favoring the government-run health care system by a margin of 70% to 21%, but can be persuaded to oppose it. The study showed that Democrats are most swayed by the arguments that the program would impose a heavy cost on taxpayers and threaten Medicare for senior citizens."
Of course, Medicare for All would actually mean lower costs for middle and lower income families, and Medicare would be expanded to finally provide comprehensive coverage to seniors (and everyone else!)
The only effective way they've found to compromise the case for single payer is to lie about the benefits of a national plan and scare us into fighting over the crumbs of a private health insurance system that stratifies patients by design.

I am not enthused about Joe Biden. Too much of the same old politics! Havent really settled on a candidate except they must beat Trump, who will do anything to win-lie,cheat and steal.

Dammit I hate this perspective. The weathly have an excess of money, to the point you could take 1/2 to 3/4 of thier wealth and it wouldn't change thier lifestyle one teeny tiny little bit. He's saying I won't take all your money, which is how Fox sells panic among the wealthy.
We can disagree in the margins but the truth of the matter is it’s all within our wheelhouse and nobody has to be punished.
People shouldn't be punished for making money - it's the basis of our economy.
EDIT: no, I'm not a Biden supporter and hope he drops out fairly soon, but don't see that happening.

What I'm saying is simple - you don't have a concept of how much money these people have.
Fox can and does tell people with money that the dems are going to tax them into oblivion, while Biden is saying that no, we won't tax you into oblivion, we're going to raise your taxes but we all know you can afford it without changing your lifestyle. This isn't a one way conversation, it's a competing dialogue that needs to be out there.
