So much for Pope Francis' nicey-nicey comments about gays. I recently had a discussion with a fellow Agnostic.com member who feels Francis is trying his best to effect reform and acceptance within The Church. I responded with "Bull fuckin' shit!" Well, here's a link that will put it all in perspective. For all the Pope's cheap conciliatory rhetoric, actions--as always--speak louder than words.

If you look at his speech (in the original language or a very good translator) you will see that he chooses his actions very well.
He says that we should love the person, we should not harass the person, he always tells good stuff about the person, but he never mentions the acts, the movement, or the culture around non-heterosexual behavior.

Basically this parts are already very well described in the catholic doctrine that says it is wrong, it is a sin and if they do not repent and change they have to be put out of the congregation.

So basically he is giving only part of the speech and people are filling the gaps with wishful thinking.

If he would say the complete speech would be like:

"Love, talk, accept and bring homosexuals close to you and talk to him/her about the love of god, if they reject it the church clearly say that you should not socialize with this sinner."

They lost me when they changed the rules abt meat on friday. So the ones who ate the meat on friday got out of hell? gee thanks, i've been burning my ass off for 50 years and now you change the rules. Also it took almost 400 years for the church to admit that they were wrong on the Galileo thing.

@Winkiedink54 Maybe that's why there seems to be an increase in car crashes in Az. Chris has been laid off.

Probably trying to encourage encourage people to join in order to get their money by any means possible even if going against their religious beliefs similar to the Shia muslim concept of (Taqia)

I have no real respect for the catholic church and its leadership, at all. The only ones I'll give a modicum of respect to are some, note some, nuns who have drank the koolaid and many of the effects have worn off, but they still believe in being caring and kind and etc. A few who have stood up to the male hierarchy. Remember nuns swear an oath of poverty - priests do not, and some do very well financial in large churches. All that said, fuck the pope. And totally fuck Mother Teresa, a scum sucking money maker for those at the Vatican.

I will never defend a leader of such a powerful, organized religion but it might be good to try and understand the forces at work. In 1983 Pope John Paul I died under mysterious circumstances. In the book "In God's Name"* [en.wikipedia.org] a lot of hard evidence was given that he was murdered (poisoned) because of his radical attempts to change the church. Especially sensitive was the Vatican Bank. A very rich and powerful entity which was controlled by some not so very nice people. The book had lots of pictures of what happened to people who went against these forces.

One gruesome example is a terrorist bomb (theorized by some to be connected with the forces within the bank) in 1980 (85 killed and 182 injured.

As I always tell my grandchildren, watch what people do, not what they say. The catholic church is full of liars and con artists who need to be exposed for the evil that they inflict on innocent people. I'm with you, Bull fuckin' shit to pope Francis!!!

Sorry didn't mean to laugh, well, yes I did. Of course actions always reveal the truth/facts/bullshit. It's a money making proposition and that is no way denigrating to religion; many of the faithful have done good things for many. Then there is the abuse, the covering up of the abuse, self- aggrandizement and abuse of power by some in the religious community. Oh, did I mention hypocrisy. Francis is no better but probably not the worst, still would not trust the Catholic Church as far as I could spit.

The catholic church can't be trusted with anything.
They don't tell the truth, and they never have.
Everything they do is about keeping their numbers up and
the money rolling in.
It doesn't matter who they hurt in the process.
Francis is no better than any of the ones who came before him.

@Larry-new Nope. Not going to happen.
Unless, of course, the world makes them PAY and takes it ALL
away from them.
Unfortunately, I honestly don't know how that would happen.
