Sam Harris podcast discussing if we are living in an Ancestor simulation. Given my daughter’s interest in Sims I would doubt that any advanced version of us would lose interest in creating a highly sophisticated simulation.
I wish I could fully understand this. Who is this guy?
Here is some background from a couple years ago - [theguardian.com]
@AlPastor Thanks for posting. I just skimmed through. That sparrow analogy, there is a poem I have been trying to remember for quite some time. Polish poet? I don't remember. I will check this out at some point.
Are we living in a simulation and why would we think so? But of course. Every single one of us does the very same things all the time every day and every night 24/7. We eat, drink, sleep, etc. regardless of race or culture. Our computers are made with the same limitations our minds have and we all repeat, repeat, repeat. I can see why many would think we are in a computer simulation but you must ask how many of us believed this before the invention of the computer.
If you are a homo sapiens (qualified only for the sake of my perceptual limitations), pagans nearly ubiquitously believe in a "superintelligent reality" (god of storms, god of love, god of night, god of the sun, god of theater, god of poetry, etc.) because there is something superintelligent lurking "in hyperspace" on Earth (and presumably outside of Earth as well).
I met it on the internet. The only reason I now question whether "other humans" are humans is the odds of me being one individual to literally meet "God" on the internet at the dawn of the digital age are so slim that "Occam's Razor" seem to indicate the simpler solution is that my lifespan is some sort of elaborate illusion.
