Off to church I go... BLAH! Today another member and myself of my local political party are going to the Presbyterian Church to set up a petition table for an important state question. I'm active in my local political party group.
The church offers a free meal every week on Thursdays from 4-6, for anyone who wants to come. No preaching during but they have a small service after if anyone wants to stay.
I am okay with going to do the petition drive but she wants to stay for dinner (we've been specifically invited by one of the ministers, a friend of hers, though her family doesn't go to this church) and I'm uncomfortable with that because of my disregard for church in general.
We're going together so it would be awkward for me to insist she have dinner and me not participate. She has said we don't have to but I also know she wants to as she was excited about sitting with her friend before I stated I wasn't sure I wanted to stay. It won't hurt me and I guess it's not a big issue so I guess I will.
I feel I want to give this to her because when I joined the group they were saying the pledge and a prayer to start the meeting. Something the previous president did evidently. When I asked if this was something we could give up as unnecessary for the purpose of our group, she said absolutely! And that's all it took was me asking.
So I'll go but not thrilled about it. I hope the food is good.
Gawd bless us all...
If they say grace, then say something yourself. Thank the workers, thank evolution and the Higgs-Boson particle. Thank the big bangs gone before and those yet to come. Thank gravity maker and destroyer of all things, for with gravity all the many gods could never have been thought of. We're men.
