The Misogyny of Climate Deniers
Why do right-wing men hate Greta Thunberg and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez so much? Researchers have some troubling answers to that question. By MARTIN GELIN

"The rise of Thunberg and Ocasio-Cortez has generated a predictable backlash among conservative men. In the U.S., Ocasio-Cortez has become an obsession on right-wing media. Fox News mentioned her an average of 76 times a day during her first month in Congress. Now, Greta Thunberg is becoming a similar target for European nationalists. In Germany, the far-right Alternative für Deutschland party seems to have coordinated their attacks on Thunberg with the right-wing European Institute for Climate and Energy think tank."

They have mummy issues, same reason many men refuse to work for a female boss and the same reason their ancestors used to burn, hang and drown witches.
Powerful women are "scary"

Remember the suffragettes? Same thing, men have been in charge for so long any female that confronts their belief system is a threat. It is so sad to see so many scared of these women.

Could it just be that many people, both women and men, don’t agree with the fear-based screeching about climate?

Instead of psychoanalyzing those with whom you disagree and attempting to demonize and stereotype them by the use of ominous labels, I would think that some calm and rational discourse would be better.

The trouble with a lot of political activism is that the activists are absolutely dead certain that their opinions are the only correct ones and that anyone who doubts must be coerced into submission.

Could it be that no one is willing to do anything about the necesary infrastructure that will need upgrading as the oceans rise? At this point I do not care if there is a cause or just the way mother nature wants to go but trying to deny the oceans are rising, glaciers are melting, our pollution of all aspects of the planet is just plain dumb.

@silverotter11 On my island we have a number of our roads scheduled for heightening that are already underwater at high tide now. Here, it will be slowly losing land until it is no longer $$$$$ sustainable. I have lived here for 20 years & have seen the change.

In this case, we activists are correct, and those who are standing in the way of action need to be avoided, circumvented, overpowered, or taken out of the equation somehow. This is a life-and-death struggle for our species and many others.

@silverotter11 exactly.... stop the distractions... concentrate on the realities. and how we will deal with them.

could it be the ones disagreeing are name calling and acting immature?

Tell what Bill when your up to your neck in raw sewage and sea water and are still insisting it is all "fear-based screeching about climate" I pass you a towel. okay?

@LenHazell53 At 3mm/year sea level rise I imagine you and I will be long departed before anything like that is necessary.

@WilliamFleming It's not for us and that's it in a nutshell its for our children and the way we are reacting probably means their children. Life is short but it can not abide the destruction for profit the future of our descendants.

@rathswohl sea level has been rising at that same slow rate for a very long time, since the end of the last ice age and there’s nothing that can be done about it. If that rate continues, future generations will adapt with no problem. If you believe that there will be a drastic acceleration in sea level rise then action would be justified, however, IMO that scenario is not certain and there are some very well-qualified climate scientists who agree. A cure stemming from fear and panic might turn out to be worse than the disease.

@BitFlipper Wow! That sounds ominous. Are you going to start murdering us or is this just an attempt to intimidate us into silence?

“London, 6 September: The General-Secretary of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) says that the alarmist narrative on climate change has gone off the rails and criticised the news media for provoking unjustified anxiety.”

Petteri Taalas does not appear to be intimidated at this point.

@ChurchLess I'd seen a report on what is happening in many areas similar to your island all up and down the coast. Seems williamfleming thinks we're all alarmists - loud and intimidating! - I simiply know we need to act on infrastructure, relocation and much better planning for the future. So sorry to hear your island is being impacted.

@WilliamFleming the future of the planet is at stake. I'll fight for it the way I would fight for my children.

@silverotter11 Every local Republican politician believes in climate change. It is the next generation that will learn it is too late.
