Climate deniers!
I wonder about the denial process. Many agree (it's kind of hard to deny something that is happening right before our eyes) the climate is changing. But the religious and conservative say we are too small to affect the climate so it's not anthropogenic. Funny, but these same people relish watching movies where say a huge meteor is coming at us and we develop a rocket that can break it up. My problem is with liberals who say it is real and is anthropogenic but that technology will save us and we don't really need to alter our lifestyles much and that by 2050 we can save the planet and still have a nice life for 10+ Billion humans.
@JackPedigo I worry that too many from all sides agree that it’s happening, but are not prepared to make sufficient sacrifices themselves to make any difference. The ones relying on science or technology to save us are just as bad as the deniers or the religious ones who say “bring in on, we are saved and are going to heaven so we don’t care about the rest of you”. It’s a combination of both and the fact that governments think that they won’t be elected if they slow down our economies by stopping some of our really wasteful and energy consuming habits...like flying and using fossil fuels to power industry. They have wasted so many years by not embracing newer greener technologies.
@Marionville I have been in this boat and understand it's temptations but from my experiences and learning it is not enough and may even be a part of the problem. I know, we have had exchanges on this before. I was once a part of a steering committee from a local group, Transitions Towns. [transitionnetwork.org] This movement got started in the UK as a way to help build resiliency in the face of looming 'Peak Oil.' After a while I left as I saw more denial on the real problem, too many humans and too much activity
I have sent this link many times but don't know who has seen it. It comes from a transition group in our Midwest and I concur.

@JackPedigo Yes...I agree with all of that. Overpopulation is obviously driving a lot of the need to produce more energy. The debate around abortion by the pro life lobby and funding IVF treatments always strikes me as antipathetic to our interests in an already overpopulated world, but the religions all seem hellbent on making sure we breed to maximum. I know that green energy is only a drop in the bucket in the energy needs of the planet, and ultimately it will take a concerted effort by all nations to curb our consumption...but as individuals we need to try to do something too by sacrificing our extravagant ways for the sake of future generations.
@Marionville The religious are supporters of a high fertility because they think it will give them a domineering position. Another reason they support tRump. It's not so much his policies but his support for them. It's an old and common tactic. I had once read that because Israel had a high immigration rate the Palestinians increased their fertility so as to not be a minority. At one time it was estimated the growth rate of Israel was 3.5%!
