Surprise surprise the US again plan to abandon their useful idiot allie, the Kurds.
The Kurds will now join Assad to defend their collective country from the Turks.
Well done.

Can you provide a credible source that supports the idea that the Kurds will join Assad ? Isn't it more likely that Assad will (gladly) stand-by while Turkey 'removes' the Kurds from Syria? And/or if Turkey is not completely successful Assad will (possibly with Russian assistance) complete the job -- returning his control of Syria.

btw, IMHO this is less a philosophical issue than a political one.

I know the government of Assad called on the Kurds to join, but i know of no agreement and would doubt they would do so. I agree - I want to see more if they may do so.

@Beowulfsfriend serious question, how do you know it ? (citation needed)
I can't make sense of your notion. Assad hasn't prevented the Kurds from controlling that (not small) portion Syria. He wants to regain control. What would make him think that he and the Kurds can prevent whatever the Turks might do ?

@powder Which part of politics is not about debate ! ??

secular ? here is a different take on that : [opendemocracy.net]

@FearlessFly according to NPR, the government of Assad reached out. As I said, I don't expect either to do so seriously.

@Beowulfsfriend A cursory search on npr.org did not find an article to confirm that, perhaps you could provide one.

@FearlessFly I heard it while driving 650 miles yesterday. I did note, someone on Facebook had something about the Assad regime reaching out. It may take a while, even if I find it, I'm on my phone, away from the comp. Also, if it were true, I don't believe it was meant in a meaningful way just deal with the facts - Turkey is bombing the Kurds right now and the US deserted them. For Assad and Russia, Turkey's attack is a gift.

@powder, @Beowulfsfriend . . .returning from my local library, I read virtually the same 'Assad reached out' report in the Star Tribune (dead-tree version), I haven't found it online.
