The psychology of Outrage.

This is where we are at present including on this site. We need to understand we are sometimes guilty of the same things we accuse others of.

[npr.org] The psychology of outrage.
I believe our way of expressing our feelings can and do exacerbate the present problems. One thing the report mentioned was the certain violent cuss words only inflame the issue. I have been guilty and have decided to not use this language and, in fact, to ignore any posts, replies, comments that do especially certain words as F%&@. For me refocusing my energy is easy. There are tons of opportunities where I live and I do get involved. Maybe we need a group about volunteering activities and possibilities.

I work at not inflaming a situation. I do not always succeed. There is a group for trashing trump on this site I find it helpful to express the really negative emotions and let it go so when I am out there I am less likely to get into any shouting matches. Have to vent somewhere.
The npr program was worth listening to. It is always important to check the date of an article, fact check what you have read and stop and think before sharing.
It is important to have other conversations besides what is happening in the news or on social media.

I heard the broadcast this morning but don't remember any date or any article. I might have missed something but this is about psychology and am missing the connection with date. ?

@JackPedigo The articles covers what happens on social media and such I have posts of old articles that are just to gin up one side or the other. I was just saying ya have to pay attention when you're on facebook, twitter, etc. check dates, facts, etc. and think b4 you share.

@silverotter11 I may be dense or missed something in the report (it was long). The report was this morning so I am still confused.

@JackPedigo There was just some small comment about social media and the role it plays in promoting the outrage. I do not go to facebook hardly ever these days, I have like 25 friends but there are/were 3 'friends' who slanted right and would share the dumbest stuff, I always commented explaining the facts (copy paste from factchecker or snopes) and to please check before sharing stupid stuff. I had to unfriend one person and the others stick to dog and cow cute videos.
Maybe I need to listen to the program again myself, I am confused by your confusion and confused. LOL
First I need to check out youtube and listen to what the late night pundits have to say - or as is otherwise known my morning news update. 🙂

@JackPedigo I moved from the outrage over real tweets into the outrage over false and fake tweets or old posts to facebook. I do not do twitter. The reference to dates is about people who post an out dated article that seems relevant and might be but is mostly trying to gin up an outrage response. My thoughts tend to run on a bit while typing and even proofreading doesn't always help.

@silverotter11 I also do not do Twitter and limit my facebook to mainly organizations. The link I sent was broadcast the very morning I sent it. I didn't see if it was a repeat and I believe studies of this kind are true for any age. However, I am like you in your last sentence. Too little time, too much going on.

@JackPedigo OH! I was never questioning the broadcast. I knew it was recent and totally enjoyed it so thank you for posting!! Now, aren't we glad THAT was cleared up? LOL I do enjoy your posts.

I choose not to use foul words online.

I choose not to get into arguments online,

The pc is my entertainment, & THAT is not entertaining to me.

I have better things to do.

Very good post Jack. I agree wholeheartedly.

Good idea Jack. I have 6 groups right now. Can't add another since I started working part-time. Will someone out there start one? I talk about volunteering in my groups but it needs it own slot. Anyone?

I have been reminded we have such a group. However, I see few posts.
