How much longer can this go on. Police officers entering people’s homes and shooting and killing them.

The American police must be the worst trained on the planet, they are more of a danger to the public than a lone gunman.

So much for terror on the streets. More like terror in your home. Seems like the strategy should be don’t let the idiot in if he has a badge, he might get confused and kill you!

In my opinion, if a cop is this scared of people he or she should not be a police officer. This was a senseless killing. The officer should be fired, taken into custody, investigated and not allowed to be a police officer again.

I think that the one the other day in Texas, the cop called Amber I think, has just been convicted.

Too many to be accidental now.

What I don’t get is they are killing people, not shooting to disable! Something seriously wrong here.

@Geoffrey51 It is all about their training. They are not taught to deescalate a situation, they are taught to shoot first, ask questions later. To many of these police are former military, who are taught to kill the enemy. They have a hard time getting it through their heads that fellow citizens are not the enemy.

It seems too rare that police are sanctioned for killing. The Amber Guyger case was very stressful but many in the community here have doubts that, had it been a male cop, that he would have received a guilty verdict.

@Redheadedgammy that’s a very interesting dichotomy.

Horrific...neighbour calls the police because he thinks there’s something wrong next door, police arrive and shoot the occupant through the window without ascertaining whether they are the occupant or an intruder. Even if it had happened to be an intruder, why was the police officer shooting before asking any questions? Bad training doesn’t even cover it!

Having said that, I grew up in a community in which I did not trust the police. We need serious reform. Too much of the time the relationship between police and community is automatically adversarial. Police need to become a part of the community, rather than a separate entity.

This is why community policing is important. Regardless of someone’s criminal history you can’t go into their home and shoot them.

As you say a breach of protocol but that is no excuse and this isn’t an isolated event. It doesn’t happen in UK or Australia so there are models that prevent it.

@Geoffrey51 My apologiies! I thought this was the Guyger case. The article was mostly blocked and I made an incorrect assumption.

I don't know anything about this particular case.

Yes, I agree with community policing.

This woman was recently convicted and sentenced to jail. I actually believe in this case that she thought she was shooting an intruder in her apartment. I don't think malice was involved. However she didn't even follow police protocol.

The behavior of the police in America can vary widely but, like every other aspect of life, the sensational stories get the coverage and so unfairly create an image that is not entirely accurate.
