Have all y’all heard about Buy Nothing? A new local one started up as a facebook group here. It’s a simple concept: if you have something useful that you no longer need, give it to someone who needs it.

I dunno if i shoud be happy about people helping other people, or despondent about people switching back to a barter economy because the cash economy doesnt work for them.

@MissKathleen so it's charity. I'll go with despondency, then.

@MissKathleen In that sense it is a sort of moneyless bank except there are no accounts.

What keeps someone from receiving things and selling them? Since the items were freely given no one could really object, except as a matter of principle.

@MissKathleen it's not even close to how I wish.

@MissKathleen the fuck you know what I'm telling myself?

@1of5 social media balls. Bash a Lady from afar for no real reason.

@Switchcraft excuse me? You also a mind reader like the lady from afar you know jack shit about?

Look, I'm really, really sorry I don't get the warm fuzzies about a program that's essentially a "help me I can't afford what I need" program. Great that people will help out, but this is a band aid applied to a broken arm. Feel good about that all you want, I can't.

It sounds very beneficial, but I don’t do Facebook.

It sort of reminds me of our local “Christian Mission”. You can donate things you don’t want, and you can buy stuff very cheaply. Of course that’s just stuff, not services.
