One of the best TED Talks I've seen in awhile.
The best quote "We live in a machine that is designed to get us to neglect what is important." The consequences of American capitalism. Many defend as they see it as a necessity to be a superpower and top country in the world, but there is a real downside.
While I think he makes some excellent points - note that religious communities can also fill the void he mentions. They can be seen as providing a community and a sense of belonging. This may be one of their main appeals. When I attended church as a teenager, this was one thing they did. I liked playing basketball but was not very good. Our church was part of a league and there were no tryouts so anyone could play. We need to find an alternative to building a clear sense of community without religion.
