These are the kids who should get full support from the education system. The top 2% of each academic year should be given every chance to excel in whatever field they choose ..... because they are the ones who will invent new technologies, drive change and make the world a better place for everyone.
Sad though it is that some kids have physical and mental 'issues', they will never make a difference to the world ..... yet, illogically, the least educationally able recieve the greatest support

This boy is fortunate, he was not held back.
Many talented youngsters are forced to crawl at the pace of their slowest classmates, because the education system does not recognise that if they are held down, they eventually go stale.
By all means help the lesser pupils, but gather the brighter ones in special places that propel them forward.

There are plenty of folks who excel in school and have little or no imagination to create or lead. There have been great minds who did not go to or finish college. Bill Lear quit school in the 8th grade. I think he later got his GED. Pompeo is a West Point and Harvard grad and he is a complete shit head. So no, I don't think it is a good idea at all. John McCain finished at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. Regardless of politics, which one of these men is or in McCains case was a better leader and human being?

There is a lot to be gained from helping the most able move the world forward, Yet there is also a lot to be gained from making sure that the least able do not move it backwards.

He's graduating from college at age 9 with a degree in engineering. What would more support have done for him? On the other hand, the children you would discard can be educated to a point where they can function in society. There is plenty of assistance in scholarships, aid, advanced placement, and opportunity for the brilliant students who excel academically. There are plenty of intelligent kids with emotional and physical "issues." It's criminal that we prefer to spend our vast national wealth killing kids, our own and others' in foreign countries, rather than helping our less fortunate.

Your view that imperfect kids can't contribute to society is as appallingly ignorant as it is disturbing.

The point is not that 'imperfect' kids do not contribute to society ...... it is that the most academically able could contribute more if they were given greater opportunity and support.

@ShadowAmicus Education in the United States is underfunded in every area. The issue is not that we are taking away from advanced programs for special needs program, it's that were short-changing all of them.

@JimG Then funds should be targeted where they will produce the greatest benefit, which, I would suggest, is in enabling the best of the best to achieve their full potential
