One of my friends on FB posted this and I found myself mostly agreeing with it. Thoughts?

A shaman was asked:

What is poison?

  • Anything beyond what we need is poison.
It can be power, laziness, food, ego, ambition, vanity, fear, anger, or whatever.

What is fear?

  • Non-acceptance of uncertainty.
If we accept uncertainty, it becomes adventure.

What is envy?

  • Non-acceptance of good in the other.
If we accept good, it becomes inspiration.

What is anger?

  • Non-acceptance of what is beyond our control.
If we accept, it becomes tolerance.

What is hate?

  • Non-acceptance of people as they are.
If we accept unconditionally, it becomes love.

I'm not sure about most of those however Anger I was told was "Me not getting something I think I deserve" I'm not a anger kind of guy but this still made perfect sense to me. I also had my own thought of the opposite Guilt "I don't deserve something I thought I did" just me thinking

Sounds like very wise words.

Are you sure it was a shaman? What if it was my college room mates mom, after we fed her a ton of pot brownies and rubbed mud on her face and told her it was imported from India? Shit got pretty wild, iirc

So sex is poison beyond what is needed for procreation? Anger, hate, envy and fear are healthy parts of the emotional spectrum and shouldn't be shamed or disregarded. They keep us safe and help us stand up for ourselves.

I have infinitely more respect for this than I do for western abrahamic religions but it's a bit wooy for me.

Can’t argue with that.

It’s a very powerful statement in our current consumer age.
