So with this Facebook scandal it got me thinking . Are the admins here monitoring the answers to questions our likes etc and selling that info to a third party ?
I must admit, I'm curious about this. I instinctively feel that this site is 100% trustworthy and above board, but in the FAQs is says "Q: Why don't you charge for membership especially for dating? A: Again, Agnostic.com is a non-profit. While we do spend thousands/month on advertising, we are happy just letting non-believers know that there are milliions of us." Thousands a month? Where does that money come from?
Thanks for your question. As you see, we don't have any advertising on the site nor does our terms of service allow us to sell anything about our members. We use "likes" internally to help suggest similar posts or to let you know who are your biggest fans. We're a non-profit and exist for our members.
Best answer ever thank you
I disagree. I don't think that is a good answer. I really like this site and I agree, the site does feel as if it is genuine. But I want to know more about who these people are and what their thinking is. Anything which attempts to change the anti-intellectual and dogmatic pro-religious attitudes of the USA is a good thing, for me, but I don't like it when people hide their identity. I don't like it when people put a photo of their dog instead of themselves on Facebook and similar sites. Honesty is the most important thing! Having said that, i shall go and change my user name - I used a pseudonym to start with because I wasn't sure i could trust the site. But now I think I can.
@CeliaVL True. However, I am more concerned about personal safety than making a name for myself here. I'm just a software developer who has some money and time to help create this community. I grew up in a loving, but very religious, family so I am aware of the usefulness of a supportive community for unbelievers. Thanks!
@Admin First, I love this site. It has grown to take far too much of my time, but I can live with that! I'm having fun, learning & sharing. I'm very glad & grateful you've done this! I'm fairly open about who I am here, tho some are more so. My picture is my picture, & I share others. My "name" is the start of my internet name. I have grown to actually almost love some of the people I've "met" on this site, & not in the dating capacity! (Darn!) Please keep doing what your doing. I would miss this if it was gone!!!!
