Mayor Pete opposes free tuition because it will alienate half the country. He bought into the myth that it would be free for millionaire’s kids who usually attend private universities. Maybe he is too young for the job. But then a younger member of Congress knows better and she makes some excellent points about universality. If a quality education programme works for poor kids it will work for rich kids. There are follow-up tweets to this initial response. [twitter.com]

You know, I think it's ridiculous that the children of millionaires get to go to public schools for free. We should abolish the pubic education system.

Then only the rich kids would get an education. Do you think that would be a good idea?

@dare2dream I was saying that sarcastically to show what a poor argument it is to say that free college is a bad idea because rich kids will get to go for free.
