Are lifestyles of the rich and democrat undermining the fight against climate change?

Both Obama and Al Gore have recently bought expensive beach houses. Now, I get it, contrary to what the climate change deniers claim, neither of them is would be in any near future danger of flooding from sea level rise. They will both die before Waterworld comes. That's not the issue. The issue is that they are playing right into the hands of climate change deniers who claim that neither one of them really believes that climate change is any real threat or they wouldn't be living on oceanfront property. I can't count how many right-wing climate-denier fake news articles have used this as "proof" that climate change is a hoax and we are all being bamboozled. One example among countless others:

If those houses are insured, they could get a few good years there and then have most of their money back, depending on the coverage.

The big hope is that in time the younger generation will start to see big consumption, large and multiple houses etc., as morally unacceptable and a sign of bad taste. That day will come, but will it come fast enough.
