Why is it that people feel it is necessary to honk to horn to let people know they are at their house? Do any all persons involved not have a working cell phone? If no, are you just to goddamn lazy to walk about 10 feet to the door? If you have some medical condition that prevents you from doing so, you probably should not be driving!
My dad does that all the time when he comes to visit. I keep on telling him NOT to do that. My neighbor is the mayor, and he is a picky person.
LOL, living in NYC, I have little frame of reference... car horns are the cricket chirps of the city and soon it's nothing but background noise.
As a paltry attempt to address the OP, though, I do notice that some people simply need to announce themselves to the world at large. Same reason why some people whistle loudly or keep their ringer on their phones at max volume. Benign attention-seeking behavior; they don't really know they're annoying others.
I have a delivery fella who is a honker ....and a cell phone caller 'I'm heading your way are you home?' ... and he's a door pounder - he bypasses the doorbell every time...
They should have used him instead of an air raid siren back in the day!
Yeah we still have a 6 oclock whistle. Goes off every day. Sometimes several times. Like if there is a tornado warning or a fire. The people on the fire department don't have phones?
@TheGreatShadow Bad cell reception? lol
That's an interesting thought - when even most of the poorest folk have cell phones - they still use sirens. Maybe it's built into government laws or something like that?
