One Republican talking point is that Ukraine didn't know the aid was being withheld. This logic would dictate that Ukraine did not realize they had not received the aid. How could Ukraine possibly not know?

Maybe we'll yet find out why the aid was held and/or also why it was released, with certainty. I think that might be the nail in the coffin.
