The Price of a Clean Kitchen.

Lis left early this morning for the two-hour ride home. My kitchen is highly organized and sparkling clean. I only lost a few jars of canned peaches, three years old canned peaches. We broke out the wine early in the afternoon. That was a mistake. My daughter is not an easy-going drunk. Forty years of bad memories came spilling out, some of them news to me. She wanted to go and get more wine and chips, but I put my motherly foot down. I did dispense some good advice "live in the moment, not in the past " but I am not sure that it penetrated the two bottles of wine.
I did not sleep much last night. I'll have a nap later on.

You’ll be fine after some sleep....and you and your kitchen are the beneficiaries of the visit! Too bad the recriminations came to the fore to spoil things, but that’s the nature of wine and the loosening of tongues...have been there frequently myself!

Booze weakens our inhibitions, things we'd usually leave unsaid become imperative to get out. There is some truth in drunken discussions, but also a great deal of plausable deniability of our own culpability. And this is a huge reason that I don't drink while my ex is around, and even rarely when my kids are around. Dirty laundry is just that, and your advice was spot on. Not only live in the present, but make peace with your past so it doesn't screw up your present. None of us have mastered perfection yet, and likely never will.
